Overview

A one-year Abdominal Imaging fellowship is offered in the Department of Radiological Sciences at the University of California, Irvine, with an emphasis on cross-sectional abdominal imaging and coordinated experience in CT, Ultrasound, MRI and image guided procedures.

In addition to the one-year fellowship focused on Abdominal imaging we offer additional tracks which combine abdominal imaging with breast imaging, artificial intelligence training, or specialization in advanced MR imaging.

There will be eight Abdominal Imagine fellowship-trained faculty members supervising the fellowship. Our faculty, the rich clinical material, and our excellent relationships with referring clinicians, provide a robust educational environment for our fellows. At the conclusion of their training, our fellows are well-prepared for demanding academic and private practice positions.

Curriculum

We provide an optimal combination of high advanced imaging volume, variety of cases, experience with protocoling, academic and research time, to produce very skilled, well-rounded abdominal imagers with extensive knowledge of Abdominal Imaging.

The fellow will participate in Ultrasound guided procedures and will gain vast experience in vascular ultrasound.

Fellows will have a dedicated learning curriculum. There is a monthly Abdominal Imaging fellows lecture, a monthly research committee meeting, and weekly Abdominal Imaging interesting cases conference. In addition, active participation in the quarterly Los Angeles body club is also encouraged, where fellows from all other programs in the region will present interesting cases.

Research, Conferences, and Call

Our faculty and fellows participate in multi-disciplinary conferences including weekly Hepatobiliary and Colorectal oncologic tumor board as well as biweekly Genitourinary conference which provide in-depth experience in diagnosis, management, and follow up of complex cases.

Ample scientific and educational research opportunities in Abdominal Imaging are available. Our fellows are encouraged to participate in national/international radiological meetings with dedicated conference time. We routinely publish in high-impact radiology journals and are active at national meetings. Participation in the department’s on-going research projects and publication is highly encouraged.

Our fellows participate in Abdominal Imaging subspecialty weekend call. Optional moonlighting opportunities are available to interested fellows.
