After a full national search, I am pleased to announce that Dr. Nadine Abi-Jaoudeh has been appointed as the Section Chief of Vascular and Interventional Radiology at UC Irvine.  Dr. Abi-Jaoudeh, Professor and Director of Clinical Research in Radiology, is an internationally recognized leader in the field of interventional radiology and oncology. She completed her residency training at the University Laval in Canada and her fellowship at the University of Virginia (UVA). Dr. Abi-Jaoudeh joined UC Irvine in 2015 after working at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for seven years, while also serving as faculty in Interventional Radiology at UVA. She has been serving as interim Section Chief since June 2020.

Dr. Abi-Jaoudeh is a Fellow of the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) (an honor bestowed on less than 10% of SIR members) and serves as a member of SIR’s Annual Scientific Meeting. She also serves on the scientific program committee of Global Embolization Symposium and Technologies as well as other national and international meetings. As a world authority in interventional radiology, Dr. Abi-Jaoudeh serves as the SIR Key Opinion Leader (KOL) in the treatment of Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) and numerous other national committees. She was appointed as the division chair of the SIR foundation and SIR foundation board of directors.

Dr. Abi-Jaoudeh is currently the associate editor for the Journal of Vascular Interventional Radiology (JVIR), the highest impact journal in the specialty. She also serves on the editorial board of Digestive Disease Interventions Journal and RSNA News. She is the Principle Investigator of several clinical trials in interventional oncology and vascular interventions and actively promotes state of the art techniques in interventional radiology. Dr Abi-Jaoudeh has several patents and her research interests include integration of advanced therapeutic and monitoring technologies in the IR suite such as CBCT guided HIFU and CBCT thermometry as well as novel therapeutic techniques for the treatment of liver cancer. She also serves as member of the American Association of Medical of Physicists’ task force on Y90 guidelines. As a faculty leader at UCI, Dr. Abi-Jaoudeh is the chair of the Committee on Rules and Jurisdiction (CRJ), a member of the planning budget and facility committee and a member of the Surgical Education Committee, among others.
