Welcome to the Department of Radiological Sciences at the UCI School of Medicine

Almost every field of medicine today depends on imaging studies performed in departments of radiology. It’s a field that has been profoundly impacted in the last couple of decades by technological advances. Multislice computed tomography (CT) scanners freeze cardiac motion, ultrafast MRI detects anomalies in the unborn fetus (fetal MRI), MR spectroscopy reveals the chemical composition of tumors and MR tractography images nerve pathways.

These procedures represent only a fraction of what we do in the Department of Radiological Sciences.

Imaging facilities include five state-of-the-art multislice CT, PET-CT and SPECT-CT scanners (two more are on the way), five MR scanners (1.5T, 3T and 7.0T clinical and research magnets), four single plane angiography suites and two biplane neuro-angiography suites with 3D rotational angiography (two more on the way).

Vahid Yaghmai, MD, MS, FSAR

Our neurointerventional radiologists constitute an integral part of the UCI Health stroke team, which has won many accolades in Southern California.

Our department comprises more than 60 clinical and research faculty, most with sub-specialization in organ system imaging and therapy. Many of our faculty are nationally and internationally recognized for their role in clinical care and major contributions to academic radiology.

Our mission is state-of-the-art imaging, dynamic education of the next generation of medical students, residents and fellows and cutting-edge research. Teaching at the undergraduate, residency and fellow level is a major component of our department’s mission and we take this responsibility seriously. I believe our department has had a significant impact in all areas of our core mission in Southern California.
Thank you for visiting our site. We would love to hear from you.
