Faculty New Hires of 2024

Sindu Alexander, MD, is an Associate Clinical Professor of Radiology who is board-certified in Nuclear Medicine. Her extensive medical journey includes:

  • A Doctorate of Medicine from University of West Indies
  • A Surgery Internship at Keck School of Medicine of University of Southern California.
  • A Nuclear Medicine Residency at Keck School of Medicine of University of Southern California.
  • A PET-CT Fellowship at Keck School of Medicine of University of Southern California.
  • An Executive Master in Health Administration from the Sol Price of University of Southern California.

Notably, she has garnered several years of invaluable experience from various hospitals in the greater Los Angeles area and is joining us from UCSD. Her prior research activities in nuclear medicine have produced several papers, awards, and presentations. Dr. Alexander’s clinical interests include PET CT, nuclear medicine, and Theranostics, in addition to teaching and research.

Arti Gupta, MD, brings her 20 years of radiology experience to our abdominal faculty team. Dr. Gupta is certified  by both the American Board of Radiology ( ABR ) and American Board of Nuclear Medicine ( ABNM ). She completed her residency at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center with a fellowship at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago . She is a member of the American Board of Radiology’s Core Nuclear Medicine committee, creating exam modules for the Continuing Certification (MOC) program. Dr. Gupta has a strong clinical interest in Oncology and she is looking forward to the added teaching responsibilities and research opportunities that come with this new position.

Akash Joshi, MD, comes to us from the University of Kansas to join our abdominal faculty team. He did his residency and fellowship at Northwestern University. Dr. Joshi’s clinical interest is new MRI sequences and applications. Dr. Akash Joshi is an active member of the American Board of Radiology’s Question Writing Committee, creating exam modules for the radiology board certification examination. He is excited to find new challenges in teaching residents and fellows.

Andrew Fleck, MD, received his Doctorate of Medicineand Master of Science degree from UC Irvine. He completed his Diagnostic Radiology Residency at Mayo Clinic-Arizona, and his Vascular and Interventional Radiology Fellowship at New York University. His clinical interest are advanced elective IR procedures, including hepatobiliary and interventional oncology, complex venous recanalization and stenting, uterine fibroid and prostate artery embolization, and gonadal vein and geniculate artery embolization. His research interests are comparative effectiveness research, database analysis and clinical practice guidelines.
