Academic Radiologist Chief of Cardiothoracic Imaging
- Criteria for the Professor of Clinical “X” Series: The incumbent will be expected to conduct substantial research; provide patient care; teach fellows, residents, and medical students; and perform public and University service. - Criteria for Professor In-Residence Series: The incumbent will be expected to conduct substantial research and obtain contracts and grants funding; provide patient care; teach fellows, residents, and medical students; and perform public and University service. Excellent teaching is essential criteria for appointment in this series.
The Chief of Cardiothoracic Imaging division will be a leader in the field with reputation in academic leadership and clinical excellence. The applicant will report directly to the chair of radiological sciences and will be a member of the departmental leadership team. The section chief will participate in departmental strategic planning and operations. Within the cardiothoracic section, the Chief will oversee the day-to-day clinical operations of the section, mentor faculty, promote research, coordinate educational programs and work collaboratively with other faculty and section chiefs. Protected time is provided for administrative duties.
The applicant must be fellowship trained in Cardiothoracic Imaging and have a documented interest in research and teaching with excellent track record in scholarly activities. Candidates must be board-certified in diagnostic radiology and be licensed or be eligible for full licensure in the State of California.
The Department of Radiological Sciences has some of the most advanced imaging equipment including clinical 3T and 1.5T MRI scanners (including Siemens Vida and Lumina 3T scanners), photon counting CT and other spectral CT scanners, latest PET/CT and spectral CT technologies. In addition, there are 320-slice CT, 3T MRI, and 9.4T small animal MRI research scanners. The cardiothoracic section at UCI does not provide cross-sectional interventional service.

Position: Assistant Project Scientist in MRI and Image Processing
The Intelligent Medical Imaging Research lab at UC Irvine has an open position for an Assistant Project Scientist with expertise in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), medical imaging, image processing, and deep learning. The lab’s focus is on motion-robust magnetic resonance imaging using pulse sequence design, image reconstruction, and real-time image processing, for brain, body, and fetal applications.
Responsibilities: The successful candidates will lead projects and develop new MRI and new image processing techniques for enhanced medical imaging. The work includes developing new MRI techniques, including diffusion MRI, functional MRI, and quantitative MRI, algorithm and software development, leading projects and supervising junior researchers, students, and postdocs, and preparing papers, presentations, and reports.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated deep knowledge and experience in magnetic resonance imaging.
Demonstrated experience in C++/Python/CUDA programming for deep learning.
Demonstrated development of new deep learning methods for MRI.
Experience in MRI image reconstruction; motion and distortion correction in MRI.

Position: Assistant Specialist
The Assistant Specialist works in the Intelligent Medical Imaging Research lab to help with managing research studies and activities, including subject enrollment, scheduling, coordinating and conducting research procedures, collecting data, database management, quality assurance, data annotation, computer system and software management, study protocol design and support, executing and testing computer programs and pipelines for medical imaging and image processing, designing software pipelines, building dockers and containers for software, and in supporting research personnel in data analysis and interpretation, in preparing reports, publications, and presentations.

A position is available at the University of California, Irvine, Department of Radiological Sciences, Clinical Trials Imaging Core Lab (CTI Core) for a one-year appointment, non-senate, academic term appointment in the Specialist Series.
The incumbent, under the direction of the Director, will oversee the overall operation of research imaging services provided by CTI Core. Incumbent will assume responsibilities including: 1) monitoring and providing subspecialty research specific interpretations (i.e. RECIST, RANO, CHESON, LUGANO) for IRB-approved clinical trial studies in an agile and flexible manner; (2) reviewing imaging requirements and components of all incoming industry- sponsored, investigator-initiated, and NCI-sponsored clinical trials that will utilize imaging equipment of University of California Irvine health and its satellite sites for budgeting purposes and for efficient research operations; (3) assisting external departments in completing radiology-specific study initiation activities such as completing scanner surveys/questionnaires, facilitating phantom/volunteer scans, and any other steps/requirements specified on the clinical trial protocol; (4) providing assistance in writing, editing, and preparing manuscripts and proposal submissions to scientific journals and funding agencies; (5) working closely and communicating with the team of clinical expert physicians for image interpretation; (6) advanced image post-processing for clinical and research use. This position involves close collaboration with various departments within the University of California, Irvine.
Appointees to the Full rank of Specialist should possess a terminal degree (or equivalent degree) or ten or more years of experience demonstrating expertise in the relevant specialization. Specialists at full rank are normally expected to have a significant record of academic accomplishments, including contributions to published or in-press research in the field, professional recognition in the field, and a demonstrated record of University and/or public service.
Preferred qualifications: MD preferred. Radiology residency training preferred. Ability to perform research specific interpretations such as RECIST and medical research is a plus
