
Dr. Chow obtained his medical degree from the University of California, Los Angeles. He subsequently completed his radiology residency at Columbia University Medical Center through the Leonard Holman Research Pathway. During his residency, Dr. Chow received numerous awards including the RSNA Roentgen Resident / Fellow Research Award, ARRS Resident in Radiology President’s Award, and RSNA Resident Research Grant Award. He completed his neuroradiology fellowship training at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Chow joined the neuroradiology faculty at the University of California, Irvine in 2016.
Dr. Chow’s research focuses on the operationalization of new digital health technologies, including solutions centered around artificial intelligence and advanced analytics. He has successfully applied for over 20 grant awards, which have included support for his work on intracranial hemorrhage triage, brain tumor imaging evaluation, and most recent work on COVID-19. These efforts have been sponsored by a variety of support including the Radiological Society of North America, American Cancer Society, Federal Covid Response Task Force as well as biomedical imaging industry.
Nationally, Dr. Chow serves with multiple professional organizations, including the Association of University Radiologists’ Research Task Force, American Society of Functional Neuroradiology, American Society of Neuroradiology, and Radiological Society of North America. He has been actively involved in championing UCI’s medical imaging advances, which have included presentations in Becker’s Hospital Review, World Summit on the Information Society Forum, and Octane. Dr. Chow has been a key member in bringing the portable MRI technology to the University of California, Irvine- the first in California. His innovative work has been cited in popular press outlets, including the LA Times, CBS, Voice of OC, and OC Register, and has received several awards, including 40s under 40 from the Irvine Chamber of Commerce.
Dr. Chow currently holds a joint appointment in the Departments of Neurology and Experimental Pathology, and he is an instructor at the UCI’s Merage School of Business. He also serves as the lead faculty at the Advanced Analytics and AI program within the newly launched Institute for Precision Health.
As the Vice Chair of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Dr. Chow will oversee a new radiology incubator to support the development and commercialization of innovative healthcare technologies. In collaboration with Merage School of Business, a curriculum for radiology faculty and trainees in being developed. Workshops on IP, patents, venture capital, and start-ups are being planned. New technologies in radiology operations and medical imaging will be systematically evaluated for testing and implementation.
